Linear Precoding for Large MIMO Configurations and QAM Constellations

چکیده

In this paper, the problem of designing a linear precoder for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems in conjunction with Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) is addressed. First, a novel and efficient methodology to evaluate the input-output mutual information for a general Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system as well as its corresponding gradients is presented, based on the Gauss-Hermite quadrature rule. Then, the method is exploited in a block coordinate gradient ascent optimization process to determine the globally optimal linear precoder with respect to the MIMO input-output mutual information for QAM systems with relatively moderate MIMO channel sizes. The proposed methodology is next applied in conjunction with the complexity-reducing per-group processing (PGP) technique, which is semi-optimal, to both perfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) as well as statistical channel state information (SCSI) scenarios, with high transmitting and receiving antenna size, and for constellation size up to M = 64. We show by numerical results that the precoders developed offer significantly better performance than the configuration with no precoder, and the maximum diversity precoder for QAM with constellation sizes M = 16, 32, and 64 and for MIMO channel size 100× 100.

Full Diversity Unitary Precoded Integer-Forcing_v4.dvi

We consider a point-to-point flat-fading MIMO channel with channel state information known both at transmitter and receiver. At the transmitter side, a lattice coding scheme is employed at each antenna to map information symbols to independent lattice codewords drawn from the same codebook. Each lattice codeword is then multiplied by a unitary precoding matrix P and sent through the channel. At...

Optimal Linear Precoder for Multiuser MIMO for Discrete Alphabets

Abstract—In this paper we study the effect of discrete constellation alphabets on linear precoding for the downlink of multiuser (MU) MIMO. We underline the fundamental difference in the approach of precoding if the alphabets are assumed to be discrete constellations rather than the idealized Gaussian assumption. We derive the optimal linear precoder by maximizing the sum rate taking into accou...

Energy-Efficient M-QAM Precoder Design with Spatial Peak Power Minimization for MIMO Directional Modulation Transceivers

Spectrally efficient multi-antenna wireless communications is a key challenge as service demands continue to increase. At the same time, powering up radio access networks increases CO2 footprint. Hence, for an efficient radio access design, we design a directional modulation precoder for M QAM modulation with M = 4, 8, 16, 32. First, extended detection regions are defined in these constellation...
